Madness by Elvis Grahovac delves into the interplay between technology, creativity, and the essence of human evolution. At the heart of the composition lies a central figure resembling a cell phone, meticulously designed to evoke a home screen. The details—icons for the date, search bar, time, Wi-Fi signal, battery indicator, camera, fingerprint scanner, and play/stop buttons—capture the familiar interface of modern devices. Around this focal point, countless abstract entities stretch toward the device, their forms devoid of individuality or independent thought.

The work symbolizes humanity’s fixation on technology and the perception of progress. These external figures represent the collective masses, evolving not in creativity but in technical advancements. The composition can be rotated and viewed from any angle, emphasizing its universal and multifaceted themes. For Elvis, the concept of evolution is strictly technological; creativity, by contrast, remains timeless and divine.

Through Madness, Elvis critiques the misconception that creativity evolves alongside technology. He argues that while technological leaps—such as the Industrial Revolution—may signify progress, true creativity originates from a different, extraordinary source. Throughout history, pivotal advancements in art, science, and mathematics have been driven by rare individuals who, through exceptional creativity, propel humanity forward. This creative spark is not a product of societal evolution but of a deeper connection to the divine.

Elvis interprets “the divine” not as an external deity but as a collective consciousness—a pure, intrinsic goodness within all of us. It is this inner connection, free from the constraints of ego, that fuels creativity. However, when ego dominates, it blinds and limits humanity’s potential. Madness serves as both a critique and a warning, highlighting the dangers of losing sight of this divine connection amidst an ever-increasing reliance on technology.

This is not a painting meant to comfort or please. It is a thought-provoking piece that invites viewers to question the nature of progress, the source of creativity, and the role of individuality in a world increasingly dominated by machines. Through Madness, Elvis Grahovac challenges the audience to seek a deeper understanding of themselves and their connection to the divine creativity that transcends time.
